Whimbrel at Holland Haven

25th April 2025

After a successful morning at Walton-on-the-Naze, a quick visit to Holland Haven in search of migrants along the sea wall or on the log piles. Extremely quiet apart from a few Meadow Pipits. However I had seen photos of Whimbrel on the golf course taken by my good friend Mike O'Hanlon and therefore we walked along the sea wall towards Frinton until we could see over the golf course.

And yes, there were loads...............of people playing golf. They've got a nerve!!!!

Luckily I scanned the sea defence that juts out into the sea in the slim chance there was a late-staying Purple Sandpiper roosting on the rocks, but instead found a group of three Whimbrel waiting for the golfers to retire to the 19th hole.

Only a couple more photos as two were asleep and remained asleep, and the other was standing guard and remained standing guard, The only consolation was that they were closer than the golf course.

Thanks Mike for pointing me in the right direction..
