Nightingales at Fingringhoe Wick

16th April 2023

The Nightingales have arrived on cue in the middle of April so time for a visit to Fingrinhoe Wick before the leaves cover the trees. First stop was the Adder patch where due to the rather cool weather just one was showing but even then quite concealed, so much so that I could only manage a head shot. The most noticeable thing about this specimen is its blue eyes which look like eyelids. However, Adders don't have eyelids but their eyes go blue when they are about to shed their skin.

A couple of Blackcaps were singing their jumbled song and showed briefly for a couple of shots. Lovely to have them back.

But the main quarry today was the Nightingales and 4-5 birds were singing intermittently around the picnic area. This bird didn't seem to know that Nightingales are supposed to be secretive, skulking and sing from deep within cover, not that I'm complaining.

What a wonderful morning!!!!
