A Hoopoe at Duxford

14th January 2022

News came through that a Hoopoe was spending its second day in a housing estate just down the road from the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Why a Hoopoe would want to come to the UK in the middle of January and choose a housing estate in Duxford is anyone's guess, but an opportunity not to be missed.

When I arrived the orderly line of birdwatchers and photographers staring at the green in the middle of the estate immediately indicated that the bird was not currently on view, and it was some time before news came over the phone that the bird had been re-located a few hundred yards down the road.

When I got there it was showing quite well for a few minutes before disappearing over the roof tops once more, but long enough to get a few shots.

Also my thanks go to James Hanlon for taking a photo of me in action (foreground).
