Another Day with the Marsh Harriers

19th July 2021

On my last visit the two juveniles had fledged but were staying close to the nest and only flying a few yards at a time. Now they were far more mobile and were flying sorties around the reed bed and sometimes landing in view on top of a bush.

The female seems to have left the site so only the male was bringing in food for the juveniles.

However, when the young were getting hungry and the male still hadn't returned they would fly off to the surrounding countryside to hunt for themselves.

Here is one of the juveniles multi-tasking and having a scratch mid-flight.

What a fantastic spectacle.
