A Summer Visit to Frampton Marsh

21st June 2018

Running out of places to visit during the quieter Summer months, so lets try a visit to Frampton Marsh. Right in front of the visitor centre was quite an impressive flock of Bar-tailed Godwits, where I would have normally expected Black-tailed on a fresh-marsh. There were Black-tails present on site but a little more distant and always partially obscured by reeds.

What was unexpected was a trio of female Pintail which you would normally associate with the winter months and not summer.

There were quite a few Avocets which, as usual, were quite happy for you to get quite close.

However, this bird was not too happy about us walking along the sea wall as its chick was nearby.

There were two rather distant Spotted Redshank still in their resplendent summer plumage. Luckily one strayed a little closer allowing a couple of shots being flying back to the other side of the scrape.

But the stars of the show today were the four Spoonbills that, although showing very well, were always frustratingly a little too distant for that memorable shot.

So well done Frampton. In the middle of June when you might expect the site to be exceedingly quiet, we had a fantastic day with plenty to look at and photograph.
