More Kingfishers at Rye Meads

31st March 2022

A brief stop at The Draper Hide revealed still high water levels and therefore very little land above water and no activity around the Kingfisher bank so straight on to the Kingfisher Hide. Very little Kingfisher activity here initially, but at least you know when they do appear they will be relatively close compared to those at the Draper Hide.

The only support cast here today was a drake Mallard and a few pairs of Gadwall. The Mallard only stopped for a brief bath and a wing-flap, whilst the Gadwalls were all paired up and showing signs of some territorial disputes with a bit of flight action

Om my last visit the female spent all of her time hidden in the Elder bush to the left of the hide and the male only put in one appearance. Today the female still spent most of her time in the Elder but the male came in several times delivering fish.

And this is my first attempt at an action shot and is perhaps regarded as "work in progress".
