Fortunately we chose a bright and sunny day and having followed the directions all we had to do was wait for the Otters to appear. Unfortunately they don't run to timetables, but luckily there were Kingfishers on site which are far more reliable so lets start with them.
There was one pair on a nearby stream that appeared to be in the process of preparing their nest hole judging by the amount of mud on their bills......................
......................but also a separate pair on the same stream as the Otters.
And at that point two Otters appeared from their refuge and started swimming around fairly lazily, to the extent that the one in the first photo seems to be falling asleep!!
Then there was a few moments of play time before getting on with the serious business of fishing.
I suspect the main reason for the Otters choosing this spot was that there is a huge shoal of several thousand 6-inch Roach here, but this one obviously fancied a change of diet and caught a Bream instead.
Eventually one of the Otters hauled out on the bank and gave us some of those photo opportunities that we all came for.
What a magical place and what magnificent animals!!!
