After a successful morning at Abberton, time for a walk along the beach at West Mersea. The tide was still on its way in so the house-boats were high and dry with just a sprinkling of waders on the mud including a lone Ringed Plover and a couple of Black-tailed Godwits.
Further along the beach by the jetty a group of Turnstones were trying to find some tasty morsels amongst the discarded oyster shells.
At the other end of the beach a lone Sanderling was sharing its time between chasing the waves and avoiding the dog-walkers. Now in its silvery winter plumage.
There were plenty of Black-headed Gulls on the beach which along with a couple of Common Gulls were always on the look-out for some scraps to be thrown in their direction, and if any of them did manage to win a prize it would result in a huge free-for-all on the sea.
But as usual the stars of the show at West Mersea were the Mediterranean Gulls, although today for some reason they were represented by a single adult in it finest snowy plumage.
Don't you just love West Mersea?
