A couple of hours spare so time for a quick visit to Rye Meads. I think the water levels are starting to drop but still fairly high with limited amounts of shoreline especially near the hide. However, you can always rely on the Little Grebes and Tufted Ducks to put on a display. Here is a fluffy juvenile Tufty and the adult female.
As with other sites the islands have been taken over by Black-headed Gulls for nesting so there was no sign of any Common Tern chicks. The terns often wait until the Black-heads have finished and then try a late brood, although this is probably more likely on the tern rafts in front of the Tern Hide. However, there were a few Common Terns coming in to the scrape for a bath.
However, the stars today were the three Green Sandpipers feeding in the shallows. Not really close enough yet, but a few more weeks should see the appearance of a lot more mud.
Luckily there was quite a bit of movement allowing a few flight shots.
