Peregrine Falcons On All Saints Church Hertford

19th July 2024

In March 2021 a pair of Peregrine Falcons appeared on the tower of All Saints Chuch in Hertford and raised hope of things to come. The male was an adult bird but the female (below) was only one year old and therefore no-one expected a successful breeding attempt in their first year and, despite several sightings of mating, this proved to be the case.

Later that year the female was replaced by a ringed female called Flo which had been bred on the tower of Salisbury Cathedral in 2021. Flo stayed around for a while but then departed to the old Shredded Wheat factory in Welwyn Garden City where she has successfully produced young in 2023 and 2024.

In September 2023 a new pair appeared at All Saints and things were looking good for the 2024 season. The nest tray was being used, but just about as the eggs were due to be laid in April the pair left the tower and had an unsuccessful breeding attempt on the Ware flyover. There was no further signs of the birds at All Saints until the 8th July when the male was photographed and then on the 19th July when the female was photographed (below).

No idea where we are going from here so:
