A Couple of Hours at Lackford Lakes

24th March 2024

After a most successful morning at Cavenham Heath time for a couple of hours at Lackford Lakes. First stop was the Alders by the boating lake but the Siskins had seemed to have departed, but just in time to see a Shelduck having a bath and a wing-flap.

At the Magic Log the usual suspects were on show including this Great Tit, Greenfinch and Coal Tit.

And where there is free food there is always a Grey Squirrel not far away.

Then out of the corner of my eye I spotted a small bird on the water's edge of the stream, Closer inspection revealed it was a Chiffchaff feeding on insects.

And now on to Bernard's Hide. Sadly still no Kingfishers but some great close-up views of Shovelers and Teal.

But the star of the show today was this Snipe. There were three present but this one proceeded to feed along the edge of the pond right in front allowing some shots of this sometimes secretive bird.

Finally on our way back to the car we came across one of Lackfords extremely tame Muntjacs which was feeding just 10 yards away from a fairly busy footpath, taking no notice of the people walking past. What a great way to end the day!!!
