10th January 2024
It has been a good winter for Short-eared Owls and Wallasea Island seems to be the hotspot with up to 13 present, so time for another visit. This year there has been a warm-up act in the shape of a Green Sandpiper which has been making the most of the worms in the flooded field by the entrance to the marina.
And so on to the owls. Although it is possible to seem them flying during the day, most of the action is from 3pm onwards so find your preferred spot, settle down and they will come to you. And always try and organise some sun behind you.
This one was trying to negotiate a left-hand bend.
Not all diving attempts are successful, but it does give you an opportunity for some ground shots............
.....................and some take-offs.
And then just sit back and watch the show.
What a great way to spend the afternoon!!!
