A Day at Dungeness - The Observatory

30th April 2023

Today was a days birding with No 1 son Mark and what better place to go than our favourite Dungeness. We started at the observatory and walked across to the fishing boats where there were plenty of Sky Larks and Meadow Pipits. The Sky Larks were keeping their distance but I eventually manage to get a couple of shots, even a song flight.

But the Wheatears were far more obliging and even seemed to enjoy the photo-shoot,

Most of the Wheatears were males with just this one female.

Along by the lighthouse there were no Sky Larks or Wheatears and their place was taken by numerous Meadow Pipits which were more than happy to pose on various sprigs.

There was also a pair of Stonechats.

By the observatory another pair of Stonechats were feeding young.

We were just getting back into the car when all the gulls on the power station went up making one hell of a racket so I looked up expecting to see a Peregrine flying overhead. No Peregrine but a White Stork which sadly kept on flying until out of sight.

Well what a great morning. Now on to the ARC Pits and the RSPB reserve.
