Whinchats at Cole Green

10th September 2022

To the south of the western end of Cole Green Way is an area of scrub that often attracts migrants in spring and autumn, and this autumn has produced numbers of Whinchats so time for a visit.

The area they are favouring is a large patch of brambles, Hawthorn and Dog Rose and they could be seen fly-catching from the tops of the bushes some distance away. When we were there there were three birds present, but there had been up to five.

They weren't particularly approachable but close enough for some reasonable shots, especially when the sun came out.

And a final shot of one fly-catching.

And finally a special thank you to David @cyclebirdman for sharing his local knowledge of the site.
