Turtle Doves at Wrabness

12th May 2022

Wrabness is possibly one of the few remaining strongholds of Turtle Doves in the south-east of England and continues to hold 4-5 pairs whereas at other traditional sites they are reducing in numbers or, as is the case at Fowlmere in Cambridgeshire, they have had no Turtle Doves for the last two years.

We hadn't gone far from the car before we heard the first tell-tale purring and soon saw the first birds. However after a few hours waiting in their favoured area it was possible to get some photos. In fact today they were far more cooperative than on previous visits so the results were far better.

I even managed a flight shot showing the beautiful markings on the wings.
