I had a couple of hours to spare so time for a visit to Amwell to see what was about. I did see my first Common Terns, Blackcap and Sedge Warbler of the year and heard some Reed Warblers chuntering away in the reeds, but overall much quieter than I had expected.
I thought I would try my luck at the Dragonfly Trail, but that was just as quiet and certainly not a dragonfly or damselfly in sight, but then I heard my first scratchy song of a Whitethroat so I set with camera in hand. I was quickly able to work out its favourite perches and circuit and get myself in position.
Luckily one of its favourite stopping points was a lichen-covered dead Elder bush which provided a great back-cloth. Here are the results.
If only all birds were this cooperative!!!
