A Quick Check on Fishers Green

17th October 2021

It's heading into autumn and winter so time to check on Fishers Green. A brisk walk up to the sailing club produced nothing on the way, but right up the club end opposite the Goose Field the Greylag, Canada and Egyptian Geese had be joined by a feral flock of 30+ Barnacle Geese. Not quite sure where they have come from but they have been here since August.

On the other side of the road the long-staying Cattle Egret was showing well, mainly keeping close to the small herd of cattle and spending much of its time pecking insects of their legs.

Back at the main view-point there was no sign of the dodgy female Smew which has been present on 70-acres Lake all summer but elusive. I say dodgy because although it can be very elusive, it sometimes follows the ducks in to the viewpoint when they are being fed, although hopefully it would decline bread.

In the new centre there was no sign of the Bittern, which does show occasionally, but a rather timid Water Rail did put in an appearance briefly and allowed a few shots to be taken.
