Winter Thrushes at King's Meads

 2nd January 2021

I had been wandering around some of the local country lanes and fields in the hope of finding some Hawthorn berries and photographing some winter thrushes but, whether through a poor crop or they had already been eaten, most bushes only had a few left. Then following a tip-off from my old mate Ron Baber I went to King's Meads where the Hawthorn bushes could only be described as "red".

There were only a few Fieldfares and these were keeping well away from the Lee Navigation towpath and were fairly skittish making photography difficult, so I only got a couple of shots.

However, the Redwings were far more cooperative and were more interested in stuffing themselves with berries to build up their fat to get them through the long cold nights.

What beautiful birds.
