Short-eared Owls in the Golden Hour

 19th November 2020

On my last visit to Gunpowder Park the sun went in just before the owls started flying so the photos were taken in gloomy conditions resulting in images of fairly poor quality. However today the forecast is for sun right up to sunset so hopefully the results will be a lot better.

Short-eared Owls normally start flying about an hour before sunset when the sun is low in the sky and gives everything a golden glow, the Golden Hour, and this can be seen in the results. Also this evening they were flying fairly close, down to 10 metres at times, which made tracking them difficult but always a problem I like to have. So here are the results.

I just love it when they look at you when they fly past.

This diving owl was in shadow, hence the grey appearance.

And to finish off my overall favourite, the eyes have it, the eyes have it!!!
