Bramblings at The Lodge

6th February 2018

Time for another visit to The Lodge to try my luck with the Bramblings, but first of all a quick visit to the hide. The hide hasn't been too good this Winter, not helped by the low numbers of Redpolls and Siskins around however today, although there were still no Redpolls or Siskins, there were good numbers of birds around the feeders to provide some interest. There were certainly good numbers of Blackbirds and Robins.

Tits were well represented with Blue, Great and Coal all present and the pond provided a focal point attracting the Blue Tit to have a bath and the Great Tit for a drink.

Of the larger visitors, a Stock Dove flew in for a feed on the dropped seed and then it too decided to have a bath.

Great Spotted Woodpeckers are not as regular a visitor as they used to be, mainly due to the introduction of squirrel-proof feeders which of course are also woodpecker-proof. However, the provision of a seed feeder was enough to attract this stunning male.

And of course, where there is seed there are Grey Squirrels and this one was so close that I couldn't get it all in.

Well, that was good fun so now to try for the Bramblings. I got myself into position so all that was left to do was wait. The first bird to appear was this partial leucistic Great Tit which has been around for a couple of months now, and a Nuthatch was rummaging around on the ground looking for more natural food.

But then the Bramblings started to appear and the next hour was spent photographing these beauties at ranges down to just 8 yards.

ENJOY!!!
