A Waxwing at Bishop's Stortford

31st October 2016

On the 30th October two Waxwings had been reported at Bishop's Stortford and so it was decided to make a short detour on our way to Two Tree Island the following day. One of the birds was immediately visible, but the fog was still clearing and therefore the light was very poor. However, it was not long before the sun broke through allowing some shots to be taken as it fed on the traditional Rowan berries.

But then it did something that I have never seen a Waxwing do before. It flew to a nearby Silver Birch and spent the next hour fly-catching. It was great fun trying to catch it in flight as it returned to its perch after a sortie.

Now on to Two Tree Island.
