Bearded Tits at Rainham Marshes

22nd November 2015

Today was much sunnier, so off to Rainham for hopefully some better shots of the Water Pipit(s) in better light, but first a quick look along the river wall for Rock Pipits and Short-eared Owls. No joy on that front but a rather obliging Dunnock was strutting its stuff so good to get a couple of shots on the memory card. And, in any case, I like Dunnocks.

Also on the wall was this lovely female Stonechat which seemed quite happy to perch up high to have its photo taken. Now why can't all birds be like that?

Now on to the Butts Hide and as per usual the Water Pipit had been running around in front of the hide just 10 minutes ago, but had now gone missing. However, all was not lost as a rather smart male Stonechat came hopping along the electric fence just outside the window. The light was not ideal but with a little patience I managed to get a few shots.

But, without a shadow of a doubt, the stars of the show today were the six Bearded Tits that were performing by the first bridge next to the Purfleet Hide. Unfortunately some rather noisy birders, not walkers, who marched straight past scared them off but not before I got a few shots.

The other highlight of the day was to meet for the first time my Twitter chum TopKitKev. How good is that?

I think this one with the reflection is my favourite.
