When you think of Little Owls you conjure up a vision of a bird roosting during daytime in a stunted oak set in fairly open countryside. It therefore came as a bit of a surprise when I heard of a Little Owl in Stanstead Abbotts, which spends all day roosting among the chimney pots of an old lodge. On reflection not a bad idea as during inclement weather it had a roof over its head, shelter from the wind and warmth, assuming that the chimneys were in use, coupled with a plentiful supply of food in the fields opposite.
