Back to Rye Meads today for another attempt at the "showy" Water Rail. Yesterday it was visible at a distance for two minutes and then disappeared, but today there was no sign at all even after a two hour wait.
Luckily, although the light was pretty poor, my otherwise disastrous day was brightened by the appearance of a Grey Wagtail which performed for 15 minutes right in front of the hide. And to make things even better this wagtail, unlike most at Rye Meads was not ringed, so I could click away without the images being tarnished with bling.
