Time to fit in a trip to Lynford Arboretum before Xmas to see if any Crossbills were on show. The arboretum itself was very quiet but there was a lot of activity down by the bridge, especially the magic post. There was a constant flow of Robins and Chaffinches coming to help themselves to the mixture of seed provided by one of the locals.
The tit family were also well represented with plenty of Great, Coal and Marsh Tits coming for their share.
And of course several visits from my favourite, the Nuthatch.
The Blue and Coal Tits were quite happy to feed together, presumably because of their equal size, but the Great Tits and Nuthatches were dominant and insisted that their smaller cousins waited their turn.
The Great Tits seemed quite happy to share.
A few Crossbills did come into the tall trees nearby, but on this occasion did not come down to drink. However, this was more than compensated for by the small flock of Siskins that were quite content to feed in a rather small Alder right next to the path. What a wonderful way to end the day.
